CORBETT MEDICAL CENTER FUND DRIVE

This is to report that the Corbett Medical Clinic Capital Campaign is still alive and receiving. We have been very successful in our endeavors to raise money to ensure better medical services and more expedient evacuation from the Bahamas in times of emergency.

After a lot of hard research and work on the part of Dr. John Shedd and Joe Calihan, their recommendations were made known and a committee was formed to begin fundraising for the project. After a very generous matching gift was received, the campaign was off and running to obtain a CAT Scan machine, build a room to house the equipment, replace the outdated x-ray machine, and put in place an expedited evacuation plan with a pre-registered and pre-approved medical and financial statement necessary for automatic acceptance at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. All of this will greatly improve the diagnosis and treatment of emergency situations that might occur while visiting the Bahamas. (Some situations require immediate administration of certain drugs and a cat scan must used to verify the diagnosis before the medication can be given. This drug can mean the difference between life and death.) The machine can also verify the necessity to air evac someone immediately when treatment in the U.S. or Nassau is called for. The CAT Scan can also save unnecessary trips to the U.S. or Nassau for tests when they can be done in Treasure Cay and treatment can follow also in Treasure Cay. The use of the equipment is to be available to everyone in Abaco and the surrounding islands. It will be the first such machine in the Family Islands (outside of Nassau and Freeport).

The people in the Treasure Cay community have been very generous with their donations…both local residents and foreign residents, as well, including U.S., Canadian, British and European citizens. We are very fortunate to have such caring neighbors to share our lives with.

While people have been very giving of their money and their time, we could still benefit from your contribution, as it will enhance the program now and in the future. If you have not donated to the fund, your participation will be greatly appreciated. You can make a check payable to the Treasure Cay Community Foundation and mail your check to Joe Calihan at 128 South Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15238, USA. Remember for U.S. Citizens your donation is tax deductible. Canadian citizens need to contact Joe at www.jcalihan@bradfordcapital.com for tax-deductible information. Other nationalities need to check with their tax consultant for tax deductibility.

The forms for the pre-approval and pre-registration for admittance to Jackson Memorial Hospital as well as registration for the air evac insurance can be obtained at the Corbett Clinic or down loaded from this site.

We hope that all of you will take an active part in this fundraising effort, and hopefully with this plan in place, we can avert any major medical catastrophe in the future.
