A NEW NOTICE BOARD IN CITY CENTER

So long ago that [the writer] cannot remember whom it was, a lady property owner phoned us and made an impassioned plea for a new notice board at the Mini-market. The original notice board had been destroyed during one of the two hurricanes last September. The aforementioned plea was one of several that we had received (although none was so eloquent!). In Treasure Cay, nothing worthwhile happens unless your TCPOA or TCAML makes it happen, so a project was initiated to obtain and erect a new notice board.

Investigation into buying a board locally came to a grinding halt – the price quoted was exorbitant.

Eventually, we were able to buy 4ft. sq. of corkboard at Home Depot in Fort Lauderdale and hand carry it back to TCB and past an understanding customs official. It was glued to a piece of plywood salvaged from a job at the Community Center. A frame of redwood was made from a piece of 2”x4” salvaged from a construction job at the John & Helen Lawrence residence. Total cost so far $11.60. But then the Management of Treasure Cay Limited insisted on a closure. Plexiglass at Abaco Glass in Marsh Harbour added $125 to the project plus two pairs of hinges from Standard Hardware.

You can see the final result in the thumbnails at left and right. At left, L to R, Capt. Frank Waters (a visitor who was a willing helper), Bruce Barth and Jerry Roberts, installing the notice board. The project was a joint venture of your TCPOA and TCCC (Treasure Cay Community Center). All the labor, as always, was volunteer. Any Treasure Cay property owner, business or church organization may post notices or advertisements on the board.
