April 19th and April 26 T.C. Clean Up

Saturday, April 19, 2008 was Public Beach Clean up day. The Public Beach is located just before the entrance of Treasure Cay. Tourism Abaco and Friends of Environment supplied the equipment and refreshments and were joined by a group of ambitious home owners and tourists who crawled through entanglements of sea grapes to fetch plenty of debris. A recycling bin for aluminum cans has been deposited and local government is looking into more regular garbage pick up.

April 26th was Island Wide Community clean up. The children of Treasure Cay Primary school collected collected over 60 bags of trash alongside the SC Bootle Hwy from the school towards Sandbanks. They were accompanied by teachers and Mrs. Myrtis Russell , the principal. Friends of Environment provided the gloves and Tropical Shipping donated the trash bags for the entire Island wide Cleanup. Local Government collected the bags. The school also has now a large recycling bin and within three days the children filled the bin with cans collected from the road and their homes. We are looking for a can crusher, so that the bin can hold more cans.

Our home owner's group together with some visitors busied ourselves picking up trash alongside Treasure Cay Road and Rock Point Road . Others cleaned up alongside their own roads and plenty of bags were filled on the beach. Treasure Cay Ltd. made sure all the numerous bags were collected from the beach and the roads.
